On April 22, 2011, Professor Han Soonghee from Seoul National University gave a lecture to the students and teachers of the College of Education. The title of the lecture was “The old stranger in a new town: Reframing adult education in the context of lifelong learning in Asia and Europe”. The lecture was hosted by associate professor Gilsun Song, the director of the Department of Comparative Education, professor Wu Xueping, Head of the Department of Education. MA and Ph.D. students participated in the lecture.
Professor Han firstly gave a detailed analysis of the problem, "Can Adult Education Practice gain sustainable development?" while introducing the current situation in both formal and non-formal adult education, and analysing the influencing factors, like government management and financial investment. Professor Han then introduced the framework of lifelong learning, and analysed the importance of lifelong learning in the implementation of adult education. Professor Han finished the lecture by talking about what the Asian Version of Lifelong Learning can be, and how adult education in Asian countries have been reacting to the economic crisis, especially Japan, Korea, Singapore and China.
After the lecture, Professor Han and students had a lively discussion. Through this lecture, teachers and students deepened their understanding of adult education and expanded their ideas and vision.
