On the Morning of April 27th 2011, Professor Han Soonghee from Seoul National University delivered his final lecture in meeting room 329. The theme was The Humanities Learning, Transformation of the People, and a Journey to Wellbeing. Professor Wu Xueping, director of the Department of Education, chaired the lecture. Associate Professor Gilsun Song, Dr. Mei Weihui and many postgraduates and Ph.D candidates attended the lecture.
Professor Han began his lecture with a vivid interview video. In the process of sharing his research achievements, Professor Han inspired participants’ interests. His research started in June 2007 through in-depth interviews and intensive analysis, which expressed the current situation and characteristics of Korean humanities classes, the transformation of the people’s concepts of education, the journey to well-being. His findings link with a humanities learning cycle. He pointed out that not all humanities classes provide good teaching, and formal education also has its limitations and disadvantages.
Professor Han’s presentation was full of humanistic concern. The lecture stimulated all participants to consider the question of wellbeing both as a human being and as an individual. Professor Han enthusiastically shared his thinking and experience in humanities learning and teaching. The interaction was lively and everyone benefitted greatly from the lecture.
