On the morning of March 28, 2013, Dr. Zhu Weimo, professor in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagne (UIUC), made a report to teachers and undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Department of Physical Education at Zhejiang University. The topic of the report was “How to publish papers in SCI/SSCI journals.” This report was hosted by Professor Lin Xiaomei, the director of the Department of Physical Education.
Dr. Zhu briefly introduced the university in which he works firstly, and then the development history of the SCI/SSCI journals, his experience working as an editor for the Research Quarterly of Exercise and Sports, which was very useful both to the teachers and the students. In addition, he shared with us his knowledge of the procedures and some special tips for publishing. Finally, he emphasized the importance of some principles: the innovation of the academy, rigorous research methods, proposing problems that are relevant to your research subject and the interaction between different disciplines.
After the report, he discussed some issues with the audience. For instance, how to cite papers that are relevant to your research, how to conduct a literature review, how to strengthen the popularity of traditional eastern sports all around the world and so forth.
We learned very much from Dr. Zhu’s report and were all grateful to have this valuable opportunity to interact with Professor Zhu, a world-famous scholar.
