From April 1st to 12th, a group of our faculty members from the Institute of Curriculum and Instruction, the College of Education, Associate Professor Zhang Wenjun, Liu Hui, Tu Liya and Dr. He Shanyun attended the annual conference of the American Association for the Advancement of Curriculum Studies (AAACS), gave presentations at the 2014 annual conference of American Educational Research Association (AERA), and were invited by the East Asian Research Center of University of Wisconsin-Madison to give lectures in the University. The visiting group carried out in-depth academic communications with scholars in the field of curriculum and instruction research in the USA.
The faculty members attended the annual conference of AERA, and presented at the symposium on “Studying Curriculum Reform: China Comes to America While America Leaves”. Zhang Wenjun’s presentation was titled “Pragmatism and Curriculum Reform in China: How America Comes to China”, Liu Hui’s presentation was titled “The Cultural Consciousness of Curriculum and China’s Reconstruction of the Basic Structure of Curriculum Study in the Global Era”, Tu Liya’s presentation was titled “Reform at Risk: Internal Conflicts of Curriculum Reform and Its Projection of China’s Modernization”, He Shanyun’s presentation was titled “Endeavor of Nonprofit Organizations for Improving Educational Quality in a Rural Area of China.”
At the East Asia Research Center in University of Wisconsin-Madison (UWM) the faculty members gave lectures and had broad discussions with teachers and students. Through the international conference and academic visits, the group articulated the Chinese perspective in the international field of curriculum studies.
