As a follow-up to ZJU’s visit in October, the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) of the University of Toronto (U of T) paid a return visit to ZJU’s College of Education in early December, furthering discussions on promoting all-round cooperation between the two sides.
“Zhejiang University is speeding up its process of developing a world-class comprehensive, research-intensive, and innovative university. We regard OISE as one of our most important partners worldwide,” said Professor GU Jianmin, dean of the College of Education, while extending a warm welcome to the Canadian delegation.
The two sides exchanged in-depth views on a wide array of topics, including faculty/student exchange, curriculum development, scientific research, summer school and joint programs.
“We may start from summer school and personnel exchange and (set up) joint-degree programs in the long term,” said Helen Huang, chief administrative officer of OISE.
During the visit, Dr. Antoinette Gagne, associate chair for Student Experience at OISE, delivered a lecture entitled “Intersectionality as a Catalyst for Critical Action Research” to ZJU students. The lecture demonstrated methods of conducting qualitative research with concrete examples. As associate professor with the Department of curriculum, Teaching, and Learning, Dr. Gagne has impressive teaching experience on how to involve students in the class.
Together with Dr. Earl Woodruff, chair of the Department of Applied Psychology and Human Development at OISE, Dr. Gagne also introduced the academic programs offered by OISE and encouraged students to engage in internationalized learning.
The Ontario Institute for Studies in Education is one of the largest and leading education research institutions in Canada and North America. The University of Toronto ranks 31st in QS World University Rankings 2018 and 10th specifically in Education & Training. This October, ZJU and U of T renewed a university-wide partnership agreement. Meanwhile, ZJU’s College of Education signed a memorandum of understanding with OISE, marking a new phase of cooperation between the two universities.
