On November 18， Edward Melhuish，Professor of Human Development at the University of Oxford, and Birkbeck of University of London and the academician of the British Academy of Social Sciences, came to visit College of Education, ZJU. The Dean Gu Jianmin, the Deputy Dean Zhou Lijun, Professor Xu Qinmei and some representatives of teachers and students attended this meeting.
The Dean Gu Jianmin extended warm welcome to Professor Melhuish’s visit and stated that Zhejiang University attaches great importance to children’s education research, especially the impact of social education and family education on children. And the unveiling ceremony of the Zhejiang University-Jiaxing Mental Health Joint Research Center reflects the government and university’s concern for children's psychological health and education.
Professor Melhuish presented his own researches on the impact of family, community and pre-school education on children development and policy implications in related fields, which are committed to promoting UK social policy advancement in family, early childhood, early education and the disadvantaged group.
Dean Gu pointed that Professor Melhuish is a world-class authoritative expert in children's education and policy development, with rich international and interdisciplinary experience. He is looking forward to the discussion on shared field between Professor Melhuish, teachers and students, and further cooperation with Oxford University.
The Deputy Dean Zhou Lijun introduced the development history, organizational structure, composition of faculty and students, professional setup as well as international exchanges and cooperation activities.
After the meeting, Professor Melhuish began a cordial exchange and discussion with the teachers and students.
