The 14th International Symposium on Computer Science in Sport has successfully concluded

Hosted by the College of Education at Zhejiang University from September 27th to 30th, 2023, the 14th International Symposium on Computer Science in Sport (IACSS 2023) was a resounding success. This event brought together around a hundred experts, scholars, and students from 35 universities and research institutions worldwide, spanning Germany, Austria, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, Ireland, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Australia, and China. They engaged in lively interdisciplinary discussions at the intersection of sports science and computer science.

The symposium featured 67 selected papers, spanning various disciplines, from machine learning and computer vision to data mining, big data, and sensor technology. Researchers explored topics such as sports performance analysis and health, providing valuable insights into the field of sports science.

 

 


 

The conference invited esteemed speakers, including Prof. Martin Lames from the Technical University of Munich in Germany, Prof. Hyongjun Choi from Dankook University in South Korea, Prof. Naoki Suzuki from Tokyo Gakugei University in Japan, Prof. Sam Robertson from Victoria University in Australia, Dr. Xiao Xie from Zhejiang University in China, and Dr. Woo Mei Teng from Republic Polytechnic in Singapore, who delivered insightful keynote speeches. Their contributions injected fresh ideas and energy into the conference. Additionally, the event included the Dartfish Workshop and the Women in IACSS Workshop, providing participants with valuable opportunities for academic exchanges and professional training.

                 Women in IACSS Workshop

To honor the legacy of Prof. Dr. Jürgen Perl, the co-founder and inaugural President of the IACSS, the conference introduced the Dartfish-Jürgen Perl (IACSS) Award.The first prize has been bestowed upon Jiang Wu, a doctoral student from Zhejiang University in China, and Seiji Hirosawa, a doctoral student from Keio University in Japan. Doctoral students from Madrid Polytechnic University in Spain, the Technical University of Munich in Germany, the University of Vienna in Austria, and the German Sport University Cologne shared the second and third prizes, recognizing their outstanding research achievements at the intersection of sports science and computer science.

During the conference, Prof. Sam Robertson from Victoria University in Australia, Prof. Naoki Suzuki from Tokyo Gakugei University in Japan, and Prof. Hyongjun Choi from Dankook University in South Korea were elected as members of the International Association of Computer Science in Sport’s Board of Directors, contributing their wisdom and strength to the future development of IACSS.

The conference received robust support from various organizations, including the College of Education at Zhejiang University, the Shen Shanhong Fund of Zhejiang University Education Foundation, the Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences of Zhejiang University, and the Laboratory for Digital Sports and Health at the College of Education, Zhejiang University. Additionally, it garnered sponsorship from internationally renowned sports video analysis software company Dartfish SA, as well as Chinese companies such as Nanjing Yunxiangtong Information Technology Co., Ltd., Beijing Dongsport Tianxia Technology Co., Ltd., and INFO.Instruments Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.. All of these entities provided significant support for the successful hosting of the conference.

The 15th International Symposium on Computer Science in Sport is slated for 2025 in Tokyo, Japan, promising to continue advancing interdisciplinary research in sports science and computer science, further contributing to the field of global sports science. We look forward to a gathering that will not only showcase the latest achievements but also propel the ongoing evolution of sports science on the world stage.
